Funky Clavi

By a strange twist of fate, I bought a clavichord yesterday. A neighbor who is moving invited me over to look at some old piano music she wanted to get rid of, and while I was there she mentioned she also had a piano and a clavichord for sale. It was a great price, so I bought it. The clavichord is a precursory instrument to the piano and was popular in the Renaissance, Baroque, and classical eras, but gave way to the more versatile piano. It is similar to the harpsichord and virginal. Sound is produced by striking the strings with metal tangents and it is a very quiet instrument intended for chamber music.

Soapbox Derby

Not to be confused with the pinewood derby. The state soapbox derby was in Shepherdstown last weekend. I saw some of the final races - its was pretty cool!

New York, New York: Part 3

And here are some really famous works of art that were at MoMA by Picasso and Matisse.

New York, New York: Part 2

I got to see lots of paintings by some of my favorite artists, including Rothko and Johns. Here's another photo of the city and park. See the haze? That's a lotta heat!

New York, New York: Part 1

My roommate and I took a (pretty much) spontaneous trip to New York. What a cool place! It was a balmy 102 degrees on Tuesday and everyone was really happy about that! Here's me at the Ed Sullevan Theater. Next is a photo of to top of Central Park and the city followed by a sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If I had made it, I would have titled it "Ta-Da!"

My internet (stolen) is not cooperating, so the other two posts that I intended to send will have to go up later. Until then, everyone go to Chic-fil-a!!!
